TRATHIRAN REVOLT
The Trathiran Revolt was a rebellion against the ruling government of the Kuribayashi Shogunate of Ingen by Socialist-Nationalist fanatics led by Heinrich Pfalzgraf, a former corporal in the Shogunate military.
The Revolt lasted for a month and a day, during which the Trathiran Reich was established, although in this time it failed to expand much further than the environs of Imperial City. It was bought to an end by the Storming of the Winter Villa, after which Shogun Takara Kuribayashi, leader of the Exiles after her father's death, was acclaimed as the Jade Empress of Ingen, bringing about the Restoration of the Jade Empire and the foundation of the Second Jade Dynasty. BACKGROUND
The previous years had seen the Shogunate engaged in several costly wars. The Kuntrian War, Vong War and the Treksylvanian War had all taken their toll on the Shogunate's economy and military strength, and many blamed the Shogun's aggressive foreign policy for the failures, including the military's infamous Chapter experiment which ended in the deaths of many civilian and katasian crewmen during the Weapons Free Incident.
Growing discontent among the non-human species of the Shogunate added to this, as the number of samurai found amongst minority species was considerably lower in proportion to the number of human samurai. This discontent developed into a political movement known as the Trathiran Reich, a broad umbrella which attracted ethno-separatists, republicans, cult members and Strasserist dissidents. By early 2434 AT the movement had members across the territory of the Shogunate. The Trathiran movement entered a secret compact with the sprawling East Ingen Company, which was later revealed to have been infiltrated by agents of Corruption. This contract provided for the EIC to be allowed to breach anti-trust laws by pursuing aggressive takeovers of competitor businesses once the Shogunate had been overthrown, and in return the EIC provided capital and materiel to the Trathiran movement in preparation for a surprise attack on loyalist Shogunate forces. |
THE REVOLT BEGINS
In the early hours of the 3rd of Carnelian 2434 AT, a pre-arranged signal was delivered to all EIC and Trathiran conspirators in the Laptev System. Saboteurs detonated fusion bombs and high explosives across a variety of Shogunate vessels and facilities in orbit, whilst EIC merchant ships, modified to carry heavy weaponry, opened fire upon Shogunate vessels from their berths. Traitorous crews seized command of their ships, removing loyalist crew members and began assaulting loyalist vessels. The surprise was complete, and scores of Shogunate vessels were sunk or captured in the first hour of combat.
The 77th and 121st Regiments were involved in heavy fighting. The 77th suffered 60% casualties during the action, whilst the 121st managed to capture the EIC Palmera trade station, providing an exit route for various loyalist ships to escape the ambush. |
THE FALL OF THE JADE PALACE
The Jade Palace, historical home of the Jade Throne, was the seat of Shogun Tadamichi Kuribayashi's government. Having achieved orbital and airspace superiority, the Trathirans began deploying vast numbers of infantry to the palace, using orbital bombardment to clear loyalist forces away from the area. Their objective was to capture Kuribayashi and as many of the Council of Regents as possible. Daimyo Toyotomi Katsumoto led his famous Katsumoto's Sixty, including household samurai and elements of the Royal Commandery, in a desperate defense of the front steps of the Palace, delaying the attackers for nearly twenty minutes.
Inside, Shogun Kuribayashi elected to commit seppuku in order to cleanse himself of the shame of such a catastrophic defeat, entrusting the Shogunate to his daughter. Takara, her mother Avery Johnson, and several others escaped aboard the SNV Teotihuacan under the command of Admiral John Cornewaille, escaping the system to mount a resistance.

STALEMATE
An uneasy stalemate settled over much of the country. The Reich lacked the resources to extend its influence much beyond the Imperial City, but the loyalist forces lacked the leadership to retake Ingen whilst allied governments were confused and unwilling to spearhead a counterattack. For the next month, General Takeichi Starkpfote worked on building a network of supporters and loyalists across the fractured Shogunate. Intelligence officer Avery Johnson and master engineer Tony Idai covertly liaised with the United Peace Enforcement Organisation, an ally of Ingen and member of the Axis, arranging for the secret construction a squadron of Katana warships, starting with the IJN Fury of Saigo.
RAID ON GAU III
Following the discovery that the Trathirans were working on a superweapon at their Gau III facility near Carthage on Terra, Daimyo Matomoro Kanbei and Major Richard Blunte led Exile troops in an attack on the facility, wiping out the Reichswehr garrison there and capturing the superweapon plans, before sabotaging the facility. The destruction of the facility caused significant damage to nearby Carthaginian holdings, laying the basis for the later Qart-Hadastim War.
ASSASSINATION OF KANZLER PFALZGRAF
Using his credentials to gain a surprise audience with the Reichskanzler at his private winter villa north of Imperial City, General Starkpfote confronted the Reichskanzler. Pfalzgraf drew his pistol and a scuffle ensued, ending with the General drowning the Reichskanzler in a decorative fountain. Starkpfote fled the scene undetected and, upon discovery of the body the next morning, called an emergency Politburo meeting to elevate Isla Glatz, Minister of Health, to the chancellery.
STORMING OF THE WINTER VILLA
Working with General Starkpfote, the Shogun Takara and a band of loyalists were able to infiltrate the Winter Villa, dispatching or evading the facility's Reichswehr and Reichsfangzahn guards using intelligence provided by General Starkpfote. Storming the meeting chamber, the Exiles managed to kill or capture the entirety of the surviving Politburo, despite intervention by Merger forces who summoned an Avatar of Corruption, which Takara Kuribayashi defeated.
The Politburo were summarily executed. Takara made a nationwide broadcast announcing the restoration of the Jade monarchy and of the Jade Empire. Units of loyalists led strikes across Ingen at Trathiran power centers, whilst the new Katana class destroyers deactivated their stealth technology and struck at key Trathiran targets. Neusattran warships joined the counterattack, assisting the loyalists against the Trathiran Reich.

AFTERMATH
Within three days, the Reich's various military forces had defected or been defeated. A program of Reconciliation was launched by the new Jade Empress in a bid to avoid further bloodshed. Millions of people had been killed over the course of barely a month. A initiative to encourage citizens to have children was launched by the government, which offered financial incentives and support to those who had two or more babies.
The Jade Empire embarked on a vast industrial plan in order to revitalise the economy and repair the damage done during the Revolt, siting and building dozens of new mining and trading outposts and loosening its economic regulations in order to promote international trade.
