GEORGE CHASEHe is known for having helped to develop the General Sailing Instructions and is seen as the holotype for the calm, collected and urbane officer corps of the Imperial Jade Navy. He has made a lasting impact on the culture, structure and operations of the Imperial Jade Navy. As a former cavalry commander of a pre-industrial military, his insights into mobile warfare greatly affected Imperial interstellar doctrine, which had been dominated by bluewater naval officers until that point.
BIOGRAPHY |
Born on the pre-industrial world of Neusattar in the Kingdom of Suedia, Chase was raised with a comprehensive schooling for the region, learning to read and write, fight on horseback and on foot, shoot a bow and arrow, hunt, manage estates and finances and handle local legal issues. At the age of 20 he inherited his family's lands and the ancestral seat of Beringford, a town of approximately 12,000 inhabitants, after his father died of a surfeit of smoked pork. He proved to be a capable, if unremarkable ruler.
Owing fealty to his feudal overlord, the King of Suedia, he led his small retinue of men-at-arms and levy spearmen against the alien invaders during the Vong War. Using vitredeur weapons they were initially able to inflict serious losses on the aliens. Eventually forced to abandon his castle and fall back to the woods, Chase was able to keep many of the inhabitants of Beringford alive for the duration of the occupation whilst fighting a guerilla campaign. When the Shogunate navy arrived in 2430 AT, Chase and his men acted as guides to Ingenious ground forces, helping to rapidly wipe out stranded Vong infantry following their navy's withdrawal from the system.
As one of the few surviving noblemen of Suedia, he attended the Great Council along with Shogun Kuribayashi and various Neusattran leaders, and was a signatory to the treaty that saw Neusattar join the Shogunate. The military launched a program to recruit capable Neusattrans and Chase volunteered, graduating as a naval Lieutenant.

NAVAL CAREER
Chase first served aboard a Skipray Gunship and was deployed during the Treksylvania Campaign, skirmishing with Treksylvanian raiding forces whilst attached to Admiral Cornewaille's command. Promoted to Captain in 2431 AT, he was in command of a Shogunate frigate during the Weapons Free incident and assisted in disabling a rogue Chapter Ship before it could cause further civilian casualties.
During the Trathiran Revolt he was in command of a Shogunate frigate and sided with the loyalists, helping to evacuate the future Jade Empress Takara. As a trusted captain he took command of the SNV Fury of Saigo during the raid on Gau III, using the powerful prototype warship to devastating effect. Following the restoration he was promoted to Admiral and given command of the newly formed 1st Fleet, and promptly led it to a string of victories in the Qart-Hadastim War.
Under Chases' command the 1st Fleet became the model for all IJN fleets and a symbol of Imperial naval power in the FB-1 region. His trademark manner of speaking, intentionally disaffected air during combat, and genteel manner became benchmarks by which aspiring officers measured themselves and, along with his strategic and tactical observations, helped to shape the modern Imperial Jade Navy.
Admiral Chase reached true international recognition for forcing the unconditional surrender of the Vulkan Confederacy during the Horizon Wars, outmanuevering the Vulkan Home Fleet and moving to threaten their undefended capitol planet. Chase continued his career with victories at Walpha, Royal Sparta, the Red Dragon Campaign and the ARN War.
During the Barlat War the 1st Fleet was positioned to defend the Laptev System. When it became apparent the Concordiat did not intend to mount an attack on the system, the 1st Fleet was part of the force assembled by Jade Admiral Botas to fight at the Battle of Sera alongside the allied Axis fleets. The 1st Fleet fought as the Imperial vanguard, suffering 18 capital losses and thousands of casualties, but accounted for nearly fifty enemy capital class losses.
At the Battle of Yamsai Admiral Chase led his fleet against elements of the Frankish navy, led by the DKS Leagues Bane, which had inflicted heavy losses on the 4th Fleet after the 4th had emerged from stealth positioning in the midst of the Frankish fleet and opened fire on their former allies. The DKS Leagues Bane was crippled and forced to withdraw. Soon afterwards, Chase accompanied Jade Admiral Botas once more to relieve Legacy during the Legacy War.

PERSONAL LIFE
Chase is a private man who holds himself aloof from his subordinates, maintaining a professional distance to retain his image as the unquestionable commander of any vessel he is given. Nevertheless, his sense of humour is legendary among Imperials and many of his insults have made it into the history books. When a Xanthiri admiral told Chase that "Imperial ships couldn't overpower an ore barge", Chase famously replied "In that case I must count myself lucky to be facing the Xanthiri and not a mining guild."
Chase has a penchant for smoking pipe tobacco and once appeared in a commercial for Fort Laguna Spiced Rum. When on shore leave, he has been seen attending games for the Burton Barracudas IHL team, and when they won the Katsumoto Cup in 2451 AT he was present in the owner's box. An unproven rumour has been circulating the Holonet since at least 2440 AT that he plays by the handle of TheMustache on various installations of the popular online FPS gaming franchise Sheaker's Soldiers.
He currently lives in Beringford, his ancestral family seat, although his eldest daughter Rosie has replaced him as Fujin-Daimyo.
