Sanrin Bathhouse attacks
The Sanrin Bathhouse attacks were a series of concurrent attacks on the Garden Of Lights bathhouse in Takabara on Sanrin by multiple different parties, with the goal of kidnapping or killing the Jade Princess Mariko Kuribayashi.
The attacks ultimately failed, in part due to the coincidental timing which saw several of the factions fire become entangled in fighting one another instead of focusing on the Princess. BACKGROUNDThe safe return of the Jade Princess, who had been missing for more than a year, was public news across the galaxy and made headlines both domestically and abroad.
The relative safety of Sanrin was still nothing like the security of the homeworld of Laptev, and this presented an unprecedented opportunity for the Jade Emprie's enemies. The Merger, a cult worshipping malevolent extradimensional beings, hoped to kill the Princess to strike a blow against the Jade Empire. The Conclave of Sunpike hoped to abduct her in order to extract political concessions and further their dreams of independence. House Jaros, a splinter faction of the High Imperium, were looking to avenge themselves on Verma, one of Mariko's companions and a former soldier of the High Imperium. ATTACK ON THE BATHHOUSEThe attack was launched by Merger daemons emerging from the depths of the hot sauna pools inside the bathhouse. Mariko's bodyguard, a Jade Dragon named Kunnu, stayed behind to hold off the attackers, banishing a humanoid daemon as Mariko and her companions, ex-soldier Verma and the androids Blight and Contagion, escaped.
Simultaneously, Merger cultists flooded over the western wall, whilst Jaros mercenaries used a particle lance to blow a hole in the south-western wall. |
The Jaros troopers and Cultists quickly became embroiled in a vicious brawl in the western courtyard, through which Mariko and the others fought their way northwards towards the central building complexes. Outside, the Jaros legionaries were intercepted by a second group of Cultists and daemons. They drove off the cultists, but were nearly overrun by the daemons until the Conclave team elected to assist the Jaros legionnaires. By the time the Merger had been defeated in the street outside the bathhouse, both the Jaros and Conclave teams had suffered losses and elected to withdraw before Jade authorities arrived.
Inside the bathhouse, the Rook managed to infiltrate the complex and confront Mariko and her friends. As the group struggled against the Rook, a team of robots led by Malady, Blight and Contagion's sister, arrived. Their goal was to reclaim Blight and Contagion, but Malady defected and joined her sisters, prompting the Rook to withdraw. The robot team was destroyed in close-quarters fighting with reanimated Cultist corpses, before the Jade military finally arrived and cleared the complex.

AFTERMATH
The failure of the attacks led to a clampdown in local security, with two officers of the local garrison, the Jade Marine 31st Regiment, tried by court-martial and found guilty of aiding and abetting the Conclave. One, Captain Rogvir Halfdan, was executed whilst the other, Sergeant Torvi Winnick, escaped during the chaos of the night and is still wanted.
