AA-26 HONOKATANA
The Arisaka Armories Type 26 Honokatana is the standard infantry sidearm of the Jade Marines. It is a supercritical fluid ranged weapon that serves as a combination carbine and melee weapon. Semi automatic, firing high intensity munitions and durable enough to withstand close quarters combat, it is ubiquitous among the Jade Marine Corps.

DEVELOPMENT
The AA-26 contract was opened to tender after the Attack on Long Isle, as the Kokobusho War Office was convinced of the need for low-cost, reliable melee-capable weaponry to equip Imperial forces against Merger raids. After successfully passing its proving ground tests the AA-26 was officially commissioned for use by the War Office. It has a standard unit cost of approximately 220 Jade Yen. Many officers use custom-made honokatana - these weapons must accept 2mm NaHe Fluid magazines for approval.
DESIGN
The 20-round 2mm NaHe magazine fits in a port in the pommel of the weapon. Each squeeze of the trigger, when the deadman safety is depressed, uses vacuum pressure to fire a single bioplastic droplet filled with volatile neon-helium gas. The blade itself hyperrefracts a powerful beam of light, creating intense heat which turns the round into supercritical fluid as it travels down the barrel of the blade, creating a powerful but short-range and quickly-diffused blast of supercritical fluid plasma.
When combined with the HUD software of helmets such as the G-BUS, this allows for precision fire at short range.
The blade is made of a treated vitredur frame around which a hardlight field is generated. The field temporarily destabilises when the trigger is depressed, allowing the bioplastic droplet to pass through.
