THE FAR
The Far is a dimension of reality characterised by an intensely strong magical field. It connects to The Near through a process known as the Far Anomaly. The Far is believed to be the origin of much of Jade and Neusattran mythology and plays a central part in the religions of Jade Shinto and Adfira.
HISTORY
No being from the Near is currently known to have travelled to the Far and returned. However, its existence has been long conjectured and is a key element of Jade Shinto. Books such as the ancient title The Twelve Rings of Life and Death by the philosopher Tamuramaro and the 9th century grimoire The Ninety-Nine Gods of Black and White by Karitamaro Yosai set forth according to early inductionist reasoning.
Ancient tales of daemons, ghosts, and other supernatural creatures are currently believed by scholars to be at least in part fuelled by genuine sightings of, or encounters with, beings and effects that had crossed into the Near from the Far. Trial and error resulted in the limited success of religious organisations such as the Huoming Temple in replicating these transitions and harnessing magic for their own ends, but it was never particularly reliable and genuine belief waned during the industrial era, leading to a feedback loop in which the influence of the Far weakened, resulting in weaker magical results and lessening belief which then further weakened the influence of the Far.
The dramatic and well-documented appearance of an entity from Corruption, a dark sub-realm of the Far, during the Storming of the Winter Villa bought about a huge surge in belief in the Far, which subsequently greatly increased the levels of ambient magic that the adept were able to draw on. The literal existence of the Far, is treated as scientific fact by contemporary academics and scientists.
