AA-42 GUNSPEAR
The Arisaka Armories Type 42 Gunspear is the standard infantry weapon of the Jade Marines. It is a dual-mode supercritical fluid ranged weapon that can extend to serve as an infantry polearm, mounting a vitredur spearhead for melee use. Fully automatic, firing high intensity munitions and durable enough to withstand close quarters combat, it is ubiquitous among the Jade Marine Corps.

DEVELOPMENT
The AA-42 contract was opened to tender after the Attack on Long Isle, as the Kokobusho War Office was convinced of the need for low-cost, reliable melee-capable weaponry to equip Imperial forces against Merger raids. After successfully passing its proving ground tests the AA-42 was officially commissioned for use by the War Office. It has a standard unit cost of approximately 320 Jade Yen.
DESIGN
The AA-42 is primarily designed to serve as the primary infantry small-arm of the Jade Marine Corps and is a small-scale noroi gun. A 28-round 10mm Q-Cyl magazine fits into a port in the pommel of the weapon, whilst the trigger assembly can be retracted into the handle for improved melee handling. The gunspear fires nickel-braced quartz shells down a coilgun assembly in the haft of the spear. These shells are filled with volatile neon-helium gas which turns into supercritical fluid under the heat and electromagnetic pressure of the firing array and the hardlight field inside the vitredur spearhead frame.
The trigger assembly is housed in the outer haft and is retractable with a lever action. When retracted, it can still be fired by depressing a deadman switch on the upper haft and squeezing the trigger assembly panel. Included in the furniture are flip-up iron sights. When combined with the HUD software of helmets such as the G-BUS, this allows for precision fire at range. There are also manual attach points for scopes and other peripherals, but the use of these lessens the weapon's melee functionality.
The haft is made of a lightweight thermoset plastic containing a void-titanium coilgun barrel, making it durable and heat-resistant with excellent handling characteristics. This makes it a reliable choice for both ranged and melee combat. The telescopic haft allows the weapon to be lengthened for extended melee reach or shortened for quality of handling during firefights, although it can be used for both melee and ranged combat at either length. The blade is made of a treated vitredur filled with a hardlight field, giving it reliable cutting and piercing qualities and weight. It features an asymmetrical triangular spearhead through which rounds can pass.
