MITSUYOSHI KURIBAYASHI
BIOGRAPHYMitsuyoshi Kuribayashi is the eldest child and only son of Jade Empress Takara and Colonel Buntaro Minowara. Born less than a year before the Laptev Axis abandoned the FB-1 region and transported the Laptev System to the NS-1 region, he is the last member of Clan Kuribayashi to have been born in FB-1.
As a young boy, Mitsuyoshi was educated in the public school system under an assumed name from 7 until the age of 12. |
He was then sent to the Tao-Shu Monastery in Dong Wu District to be educated in philosophy, geography, history, languages, martial arts and various other disciplines. At the age of 16, he returned to reside in the Jade Palace, where he was trained in statecraft and courtly etiquette.
Mitsuyoshi was only 16 at the time of the Battle of Yamsai and was refused permission to enlist by his parents. Upon reaching the age of majority, he enrolled in and completed officer training with the Jade Marines and was subsequently posted to the 77th "Midnights". Specialising in a mechanized infantry role, as a Lieutenant he was assigned command of 4th Platoon, Bravo Company in the 5th battalion. Mitsuyoshi was aboard the IJN Junrei when it was hit by fire from a UDS task force following a diplomatic misunderstanding in the Sanrin System. He was greatly affected by the death of Captain Esposito, the ship's executive officer, and was assigned therapy in the aftermath. Mitsuyoshi and the 77th remained on-station in the Ancerious Galaxy. He was denied extended leave to search for his missing sister, Mariko Kuribayashi, as a full task force was already detailed to the mission. During the Sarnath Campaign he was part of the transorbital assault on the moon of Ba-Sten, where his battalion suffered moderate losses taking anti-orbital artillery positions from Guild mercenaries. His CO, Captain Sugoshi, was wounded in action during the fighting and he was promoted to Brevet-Captain of Bravo Company. |
Elements of the 77th were deployed as reinforcements following the failure of the Jade offensive at Cass City. Mitsuyoshi elected to lead the pioneers of Bravo Company on their advance mission, whilst the majority of the battalion was attached to the 15th Kajiyan Tigers who advanced on the city centre on foot. Mitsuyoshi's team discovered survivors from the 305th and 642nd and reinforced them, helping them to hold out against further waves of Merger attacks. During this mission, Mitsuyoshi's latent powers became apparent, allowing him to lead the survivors to safety.
After reaching friendly lines, he immediately embarked on a shuttle and made for the Jade flagship above. Resigning his commission en-route, upon arrival he exercised his authority as the Crown Prince to relieve Admiral Josef Prescott of duty and ordered an orbital strike on the city of Hornqvist. Mitsuyoshi remained on Marchand with a small volunteer force, acting as vigilantes |
and responding to small scale Cultist activity, hunting Merger agents and providing security for non-profit organisations and charities. However, after his mother was murdered in the wake of the Battle of Whitewharf, he proclaimed himself Jade Emperor.
This was not recognised unanimously, with Daimyo Toshi in particular pushing for a meeting of the Jade Assembly to 'contemplate' the succession, hinting at the possibility that one of Mitsuyoshi's siblings could succeed to the throne. Rather than push his claim violently, Mitsuyoshi elected to launch a counter-attack against the Justicar forces at Whitewharf, assembling a volunteer force and recruiting allies from the Nalydians, Minevans and Carnaithians. After initial success in dispersing the Justicar fleet, allied ground forces landed at the city of Malts and began pushing westwards. Pordish infantry, supported by Minevan, Jade and Carnaithian special forces, cleared the path towards Stakesby to enable a direct assault by the 31st Marine Regiment. |
