CORNEWAILLE-CLASS ATAKEBUNE
The Cornewaille class of atakebune, or battlecruiser, was introduced in 2485 AT as part of the Botas Reforms. Following advances in Artifical Intelligence technology and gravity weapons such as the Shamisen Resonance Caster, the Kokubusho determined that the existing line of warships developed during the Trathiran Revolt was outdated and was far too crew-intensive. The class is named after Admiral John Cornewaille, who died fighting a rearguard action during the Battle over Terra.
DEVELOPMENTThe contract to design and build the Cornewaille class was put out for tender in 2481 AT following the Battle of Yamsai. Onohama Shipyards were awarded the contract, in a reverse of policy for the Imperial Jade Navy which typically awarded weapons developers the contracts and then allowed them to subcontract industrial firms. The first vessels of the Cornewaille class were deployed to active duty in early 2486 AT.
SPEFICIATIONSAdvances in automation allowed the Cornewaille class to have a much smaller crew, requiring only 1,340 crew for optimal operation. Designed as a missile battlecruiser, its primary armament is a supply of Kukulkan SAVs mounted in VLS bays in its waist. With a range of 50 AU, the Kukulkan Smart Attack Vehicle poses a serious threat to enemy fleet and station assets.

planetary positions at range. For close-quarters combat it boasts two Shamisen Resonance Casters and fourteen Gyaku-Tanken Boarding Cannons, short-ranged high power weapons designed to cut through hulls and shielding. 26 912-LB railgun turrets provide coverage against light-to-medium vessels, fightercraft, shuttles and missile-torpedo analogues. 20 IdaiTech Combination Vertical Launch Systems across the hull allow the launch of missiles such as the Atlatl MTM and the Micomitl ISM. Finally, 6,000 Gyaku-Ko BDP emplacements provide short-range coverage against fighter craft, shuttles, corvettes and enemy munitions, providing a comprehensive network of fire to protect the ship.
Auxiliary systems include an IdaiTech HALL-7 Fire Control Suite, for the co-ordination of friendly assets, KanshoCorp Tractor Beams, two IdaiTech Stormcloud TILT Generator and an Arisaka Warchest Foundry System.
The Cornewaille class can carry a full battalion of marines, equivalent to 1,500 troops plus equipment, vehicles, supplies and a prefabricated marine base.
