OTAKEMARU STATION
The Otakemaru Station is a Slot 3 superweapon built and operated in co-operation with the Socialist Republics of Imaginarium.
Built based on leaked Capitolite designs for the original Crucible, which terrorised the Ancerious Galaxy during the Second Ancerious War, this superweapon fires a stream of matter from an artificial accretion disk, usually gathered from the asteroid belt of its target system, directly at the central star of the system.
This causes the star to go nova, rendering the system uninhabitable and typically destroying planets within the habitable range.

WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT DO
Drawing on vast amounts of physical matter that has been trapped in an artificial accretion disk, it condenses this into a single particulate beam which it directs at the heart of a star. This huge influx of charged matter accelerates the lifecycle of a star, prompting runaway nuclear fusion which results in a powerful stellar explosion.
This explosion typically destroys nearby habitable planets, and any planets that survive find themselves slipping out of position as their star is either destroyed completely, collapses into a rapidly cooling neutron star, or even worse forms a black hole. Either way, the system is rendered uninhabitable for those that survive the devastating initial effects of the blast.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
Besides its terrifying primary superweapon, the Otakemaru Station is a powerful structure in its own right. Nearly 300 kilometres in diameter, it carries significant banks of conventional weaponry and defenses, as well as having the shipyard and harbour facilities necessary to host an entire fleet of IJN warships, equivalent to nearly two hundred FTL-capable vessels.
It has a permanent staff of 15,000, including nearly five hundred pilots for its garrison of fighters and light corvettes, as well as a full regiment of 7,500 Jade Marines.

WEAKNESSES
The weapon takes considerable time to charge as it must gather materials from local sources, or else have materials delivered and placed into its accretion disk in order to fire. Interference with its accretion disk can slow the process.
Although it is large and boasts heavy armour and armament, these defensive systems are not capable of resisting sustained assault by significant numbers without support from a friendly fleet. It also has no protection against enemy superweapons.
HISTORY
Development began on the Otakemaru Station in 2488 AT, following the distribution over the AncNet of Crucible plans by the nation of Capitol.
