JUAN CARLOS LA SAÑA
BIOGRAPHYThe JIAN is aware of the existence of la Saña's alter-ego, Verachter, a dangerous ancient psionic being that potentially predates civilisation on Laptev. Little is understood of his origins, although he is believed to be the root of multiple myths and legends about various monsters, demons and other supernatural creatures throughout history. He is believed to have been behind the genocide on Zlost, the deaths of thousands of Qart-Hadastimi POWs on Neusattar, and the Curse of Light.

Colonel la Saña's recorded career began in 2422 AT when he volunteered as a lieutenant with the military of the Kuribayashi Shogunate, immigrating from the Katasian Ryk. He was assigned as part of the liaison team to the FB-1 Jedi Order. He joined the Order in their assault on the stronghold of the Dark Lord Kisnik. He was one of the few Imperial survivors of the Kisnik Raid, and received combat and Force training with the Jedi Order before returning to the Shogunate.
As an infantry officer he fought in the Kuntrian War, the Vong War and the Treksylvanian War, by the end of which he had been promoted to Major. He was attached to a task force of the Knights Paladin of the Order of the Watcher during their failed mission to secure the profane text The Flesh Masks of the Knights of Oblivion. During the Trathiran Revolt he aligned himself with the revolutionaries and was assigned to the Gau III superweapon facility, but avoided the Exile's assault on the facility by mere hours after taking last-minute shore leave. Sensing the changing tides, he sought out Takeichi Starkpfote and allied himself with the Exiles during the Restoration. La Saña personally led the assault on the Reichsfangzahn Headquarters in Seiiki, famously leaving no survivors after saying to his soldiers "If the gods wished to show mercy, they would not have sent us". Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel during the Qart-Hadastim War, he was given command of the Prisoner of War camp on Neusattar. A mysterious incident resulted in the deaths of several thousand prisoners of war. Further loss of life was only prevented by la Saña's deployment of aerial assets which created a firebreak in the camp using energy weapons. La Saña led JIAN agents and Jade Marines against the World Directorate Agency headquarters, using his credentials and high position within the shadowy multinational organisation to covertly allow Imperial forces access into the building. Following the conclusion of the Barlat War, he led fact-finding missions to the planets of Zlost and Levant Al Asad. The Levant was found to have been abandoned by its lords and masters, whilst the people of Zlost were discovered to have been the victims of a comprehensive genocide. |
In NS-1, he acquired the IJN Hellfire as part of a trade in return for outdated FTLi technology the Jade Empire had confiscated during the war against the Red Dragon Society. He led a small task force to destroy the necro-slavers of Golgotha through orbital bombardment, before accepting a role with the Kokubusho as a spiritual advisor.
He was secretly behind the Curse of Light. As his alter-ego, Verachter, he began by creating an illusion which caused widespread belief in magic and Jade Shinto, enabling him to channel great power from the Far. He then used this power to enact a standing curse on the population, by which anyone who swore loyalty to the Jade Empire was transformed into a Yokari or variant species.
He joined Faleka, Maelth and other supernatural entities in investigating the murder of Arkol in the Ancerious Galaxy. It was discovered that the #IMAGO movement, led by a man named Remus, was behind the killing. Tracking him to Izqina, the group fought and killed Remus and most of his henchmen, but discovered that the Army Of The Panopticon was behind the plot.
