Kitai Jade Sniper Academy
The Jade Sniper Academy at Kitai is the premier marksman and sharpshooter training facility of the armed forces of the Jade Empire of Ingen. Established in 2354 AT as Shogunate Sharpshooting Academy, it has operated for more than a century.
The Jade Sniper Academy sprawls over nearly a hundred square kilometers, including barracks, ranges, simulation zones, armouries, recreational and administrative buildings. HISTORYAs the encroachment of firearms into Ingenious society became more and more widespread, the military leadership of the Kuribayashi Shogunate recognised the need to train and adapt to the evolution of warfare. A tentative facility for training skirmishers to use muskets and rifles was established in 2354 AT as the Shogunate Sharpshooting Academy. Viewed with some disdain by military traditionalists, the lack of oversight or interest from conservative elements of the general staff allowed the Academy to develop its own doctrines and experiment with new tactics.
The riflemen produced by the Academy proved to be highly effective on the battlefield, able to identify and target high-ranking enemy officers, practicing independent fieldcraft and stealth in order to achieve their goals whilst avoiding the threat posed by massed archery and cavalry. By the advent of the 25th century, the Shogunate military was well on its way to adopting firearms as a standard infantry weapon and the SSA was expanded and reformed into the Kitai Jade Sniper Academy. With access to high-powered weaponry and extensive educational and training resources, the KJSA became a hub for the development of scout-sniper doctrine, training and equipment. The current head of Jade military intelligence is a graduate of the KJSA. ENTRY REQUIREMENTSSoldiers reporting to the KJSA must hold the minimum rank of Corporal, have 20/20 corrected vision and score at least 80% in all physical tests, including swimming qualifications. They must be qualified Expert Shooter with no disciplinary history or mental health records. All KJSA applicants must be volunteers.

TRAINING
PHASE 1 - MARKSMANSHIP
In this phase, snipers learn to fire at a range of distances and targets, understand environmental conditions and work as part of a two person team. They learn how to gauge unknown distances and how to acquire moving targets at range. They also learn how to act as spotters and to liaise with command.
PHASE 2 - SCOUTING AND FIELDCRAFT
In this phase, snipers learn how to gauge unknown distances and how to acquire moving targets at range. They learn advanced wilderness survival in a range of environments and how to operate isolated from support. They are trained in tracking targets and avoiding detection in urban, semi-urban and rural environments. They study the strategic and tactical considerations necessary to deal with a range of enemy forces and dispositions, and how to navigate hostile territory.
PHASE 3 - PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE AND INTELLIGENCE
In this phase, snipers are trained in a variety of psychological warfare and profiling techniques. They learn how to respond to advanced torture techniques. They are also briefed in military intelligence gathering and principles.

DEPLOYMENT
Upon graduation, KJSA trainees receive the prefix Sniper to their rank and are assigned in pairs at the battalion level. They are typically attached to the command company are used to deliver precision fire on targets as required.
They are also responsible for establishing concealed sniper sites from which they can deliver fire, spot enemy units and gather intelligence. Used as advance scouts when aerial reconnaissance is insufficient or unavailable, they often operate detached duty from their company command.

EQUIPMENT
The primary weapon of the KJSA is the WH-TIR 'Kodiak' conventional railgun which can be suppressed to minimise sound and light feedback. The Kodiak is typically used for targeted kill missions. Spotters carry the Kazedama Marksman Rifle, a powerful directed-energy weapon that serves as an anti-material rifle but is unsuited for stealth missions.
Jade Snipers also carry a Miko pole, a staff-like device that contains a range of highly-directional sensors used for surveillance, rangefinding and intelligence gathering. The Miko also contains a dazzler system used to temporarily blind IR, heat and visual sensors and jam radio frequencies, and can be used as a stand for firearms as well as mounting a shovel blade for the construction of blinds and firing positions.
