EDUCATION
Across the Jade Empire, all children between the ages of four and twelve must attend a public school, known as a Gakko or State School, for four hours a day. These schools teach basic life skills such as mathematics, literacy, history, sports, crafts and cookery. At the age of 12, children undergo the General Standard Aptitude Test, or GSAT which, combined with their scholastic history and work, qualifies them for specialist Gaikun, or Academies (pictured, left).
These Academies specialise in generalist areas including manual trades, knowledge-based professions and service careers, with more resources, specialised teachers and class hours dedicated to their area of expertise, but all offer a range of classes to ensure a well-rounded education up until the age of 18. Gaikun also equip students with essential life skills such as critical thought and philosophy, basic finances, home maintenance, vehicle operation and digital competencies. Gaikun graduates receive a weighted average certification, known as a Hyoka or Evaluation, based on their last two years of academic study, which is used to determine their eligibility for university and apprenticeship positions. |
For those pursuing graduate qualifications, Seiiki University and Aeterna University on Laptev, Ashby University and the University of Visborg on Neusattar, and Legacy University on Legacy are consistently ranked among the top graduate institutions in the Jade Empire. All universities are bound by law to maintain tuition fees at no more than 200 hours of minimum wage after tax per annum, to ensure that students can fund their employment through work, but are free to set their own academic requirements for admission. Universities recieve subsidies from the government based on performance and graduate satisfaction metrics.
