SUN WUKONG
The Sun Wukong is a Slot 1 tier superweapon in service with the Imperial Jade Navy. Crewed by a staff of 12,000 and with a marine complement of a full battalion, it is the single largest warship ever built by the Jade Empire.
It is powered by an eponymous oversized Real Artificial Intelligence built using Dawnstone. It carries hundreds of thousands of drones and is used for electronic warfare, sensory work, communications networking, psychological and military deception and information warfare. It represents a development in the General Sailing Instructions, with the Kokubusho increasingly pushing for orchestrated set-piece tactics and total battlefield control and manipulation. |
WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT DO
Sun Wukong is a gigantic warship designed for informational and electronic warfare on a grand scale. Powered by a huge network of AI powered by Dawnstone looted from the Third Coronan Republic during the Battle of Dinok, it mounts thousands of smart drones which can create a comprehensive network of illusory signals across the spectrum, convincingly recreating celestial objects and bodies, ships, beings, energy and matter. Its primary value lies in its ability to overload enemy strategic and tactical planning capacity by presenting them with a false view of the battlefield. Illusory threats, feigned retreats and other false imagery provides psychological stress and greatly complicates enemy attempts to plan their battle, and can lead to a cessation of hostilities before combat even begins, as the Sun Wukong is able to generate illusions of vast fleets far beyond the manufacturing capacity of the Jade Empire. Even for enemies who are completely aware of the existence of Sun Wukong and its abilities, the great array of false targets presents a serious demand on resources. By the time the enemy has determined which ships are real and which are not, it may well be too late for them to react accordingly. It backs this up with a large electronic warfare suite which uses a variety of conventional and experimental methods to interfere with enemy communications and sensory systems. |
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
Sun Wukong itself is a 74 kilometre long warship. Lightly armed for its size, it does still boast an array of CIWS systems, mid-size railguns and DEW emplacements for defensive purposes. It carries hundreds of thousands of smart drones in rack bays in the waist of the ship. It has an oversized electronic warfare suite, as well as a vast AI core which allows it to program and control the drones, as well as parse and utilize new information to develop new projections and drone patterns.
The drones, known as Goldstar Drones, are two metres in length and contain a package of impulse generators, as well as sublight drives and a sensors suite. Controlled by a Narrow Artificial Intelligence, they are able to process nearby battlefield data and generate illusory responses accordingly, as well as following overall strategies decided upon launch or communicated post-fact. The drones boast a range of generators and systems to help create and maintain illusions on the
battlefield, and multiple drones can work together to create larger imagery. A single drone can comprehensively imitate an average battleship of up to a kilometre in length. Goldstar Drones have adjustable exterior panelling to allow them to create radar cross-sections of various objects. They contain radio and communication suites to mimic real vessels, including smart-generated communications sent to other drones and real ships.

Hyperdense materials, combined with a small gravity well generator, allow Goldstar Drones to mimic the gravity shadow of much larger and more dense objects, whilst hologram generators provide visual and light-based cover. Purpose-built radiation emitters falsify a gamut of radiation signatures, whilst heat emitters and trailing 'lure' sinks create convincing heat signature. The neutrino emission of Goldstar Drones can be artificially increased by decreasing engine efficiency.
The Sun Wukong has a multi-tiered sensory and electronic warfare suite. It is able to jam a wide range of enemy communication and sensor systems, and has a comprehensive set of sensors. Much of this is housed in the mast assemblies.
WEAKNESSES
The Sun Wukong boasts no superweapon-tier offensive capability. It lacks the ability to accurately mimic vessels it has not had the chance to study, and changes to enemy tactics and configurations, along with other countermeasures, can prevent successful mimicry even of vessels it has the full technical specifications for.
Communications to the drones are also at risk of interception, although encryption and other countermeasures are in place. The alternative, to issue fresh orders to a new drone and dispatch it to the area in order to relay those instructions by short-range communications, is time-consuming.
Drones are not infallible against detection by advanced deduction, nor can they adequately simulate physical impacts, meaning that probes, light craft or even ramming attempts by capital vessels will reveal them to be decoys.
HISTORY
Development began on the Sun Wukong in 2485 AT. The first Goldstar Drone field tests were widely successful, and Goldstar Drones were deployed to the Kfar Tzvora system to combat the Coronan superweapon project there.
