IMPERIAL JADE NAVY
The Imperial Jade Navy is sole military branch of the Jade Empire of Ingen, and is centered around an elite interstellar warfleet consisting of lethal and effective warships which can operate independently for months or even years. The Imperial Jade Navy is a relatively small all-volunteer force and is built with a high tooth-tail ratio, with only 0.2% of the population serving in the military. Armed with FTL drives, replenishment systems and other advanced equipment, even the smallest Destroyer is a self-sufficent task force that can range near and far to enforce the Jade Empire's authority across the stars. They carry the Jade Marine Corps, an element of the IJN equipped and trained for ground warfare and boarding actions.
HISTORY
The Imperial Jade Navy was first evidenced in the 4th Century AT, as the Jade Empire of Ingen expanded across the region. Imperial sailing ships, typically hugging the coastlines, dominated the area until the collapse of the First Jade Dynasty in 1207 AT. Various regional warlords maintained their own fleets, until the Kuribayashi Shogunate achieved naval supremacy through a system that used small boats to disrupt enemy formations and then destroy them in detail. By the 25th century, however, Shogunate technology was lagging behind other nations in terms of technological advancement, and it was not until trade routes with the Katasian Ryk were developed that the Shogunate Navy became a formidable force on the global stage, participating in various conflicts.
The Navy was responsible for the Ingenious space project. During the Abomination Wars in 2420 AT, the Navy rushed its efforts to develop the first Slipgate technology, achieving rudimentary FTL travel from a fixed point. Making contact with several interstellar polities, including the Paraguayan Jedi Order and the Sovereign Imperial Monarchy, the Shogunate agreed extensive lend-lease programs and took ownership of several hundred destroyers and smaller craft, forming the core of its first interstellar navy. By the time of the Trathiran Revolt, the Shogunate navy had expanded to thousands of warships.
Following the Restoration in 2434 AT, the newly-constituted Imperial Jade Navy was organised into Fleets and a new line of warships, beginning with the Katana-class Destroyer, was introduced. By the time of the Barlat War an Imperial Fleet was composed of 293 capital class vessels and assorted sub-capital vessels as needed, with nearly 400 fleets in active service.
In the Third Era, the Botas Reforms bought about structural overhaul to the IJN. These Reforms introduced new ship classes such as the Takeichi and Katsumo, and shrank the size of the navy down to 102 fleets with 179 ships per fleet, the Botas Reforms formalised standard Imperial operating procedure under the General Sailing Instructions.
