GAMEPLAY
The games consist of top-down turn-based battle scenarios in which the player can choose between several allied Commanding Officers to lead their forces. Each commanding officer has their own bonuses and penalties, and also has a Special Power which can be used when their power meter is full. The power meter fills as players destroy enemy units and lose units of their own.
Missions can be either pre-deployed or contain barracks and spaceports from which fresh units can be deployed throughout the course of the battle using funds raised by controlling cities on the map. Units can fight in direct combat, in which the defender gets to return fire after taking damage, or indirect combat, in which the defender is denied the opportunity to counter-attack. The game relies on a rock-paper-scissors system, whereby different units pose threats to one another and so players must deploy multiple types of unit for maximum effectiveness. The player is awarded a Rank for each completed mission (other than War Games mode), based on how many casualties they received and inflicted upon the enemy. They also receive points which they can spend in the in-game store for additional mission content, characters and cosmetic items.
The games have several single-player campaigns, set in different wars and theatres and offering different player and opposing Commanding Officers. Campaign missions are often unbalanced and contain story objectives. Upon completion of a regular campaign with an average rank of (A) or (S), a Veteran Mode campaign can be unlocked with significantly more challenging missions. The games also have a Tactics mode, where players can challenge one-off missions against various enemy Commanding Officers, and a War Games feature, in which players can create custom matches and maps play against friends or as co-op against the game's AI. PLOTThe first game follows the invasion of FB-1 World by the Merger. The campaign mode follows first the Jade Empire, then the Katasians and finally the Pords fighting against the Merger invasion before uniting for a final three-mission run in which the player can control multiple commanders.
The story ends with the allies defeating the Merger, but the Katasians mysteriously choose to
